It was something I also remarked upon after I saw the showcase at Shopfront- and I was told there were originally 5 artslab participants- two female , three males. Both female participants were not able to go through to the showcase for personal reasons- and that is fair enough. I was told that the first Artslab residency at Shopfront was all women- and that it has had a fairly 50/50 representation- this year was an all male year.
I am wondering what contributing factors would help women stay in the arts? Is it the presence of other women as mentors/examples? Any thoughts?

I was dismayed to find that Shopfront had supported 3 MALE artists through this program. If inclusion is an issue in the theatre (as it is everywhere) re: Where are the Women? Shame Shopfront! The Boyz Club starts at Youth Theatre level it seems. CR
