The oldies seemed to love it.
I was quite dismayed that in 2010 a female on stage acts as simply a mirror for the projections of all the male characters and is mute – never speaks dialogue, not once! For me, I kept returning to that point throughout, kind of in shock I guess, so I lost track of the specifics around the science of reasoning stuff and thus lost interest. I’m sure the defense might be – it was like that back then – but I don’t think that washes anymore. I was utterly dismayed to feel so ‘absent’ and, I don’t know, talked about in such a derogatory way with the thin premise of ‘era’ to cover up the fact that these jokes were, as you say, misogynistic.
I also felt the songs got in the way.
The Peter Sellers star turn was excellent though.
