That’s really very interesting in terms of how long each play gets in the Spare Room Program – of course just because a play has a longer run does not mean that more people will attend it.

I wonder if this arrangement is in itself a comment on international VS australian plays – do shorter runs assume that more people will be active in seeing new international work (and there for it doesn’t need to build up word of mouth?) and that the new OZ works will need a longer run to build up word of mouth because it is a harder marketing battle?

Or perhaps its a condition of the NSW funding this program has received?

What I am curious to see is how the usual New theatre shows are received with this program scattered throughout – curatorially – with audiences be able to make a distinction between the main season and the independent season?

Both international plays have shorter runs, so even with the 50/50 split, the Australian work still comes out on top, exposure-wise.
