Thanks for writing in.
Well, it may be so, that he is a “true professional” in the films he’s been in – but on the night I saw him, he was bumbling, unprepared, dull, ego-centric and pausing for applause after each name and place drop.
However, I heard from a current NIDA student that he indulged them a large portion of his day times (four consecutive days) during his week in Sydney. Perhaps if he hadn’t exhausted himself over indulging in their adoration he would have lifted his game and given his PAYING audience more profound insight into his craft and his professionalism.
As it was, his anecdotes painted him as a spoilt “star” who relied on toilet humour and his film fame to indulge a fairly agressive and ungraceful recitation of Wilde’s Ballad of Reading Gaol.
In fact, the “special performance” of a handful of stanzas of this poem seemed – like the top of the interview a plug for his film/s.
And James, this post is more about the monster of celebrity than it is about examining professionalism.
At least Pacino turned up for his scheduled appearances, unlike Janet Jackson.
